The film festival trailer this year was made up mostly of random bits of footage I had taken during the last 12 months. The highlight for me was combing through the footy we took on the inspiring and arduous Kalalau (NaPali Coast) trail. A surreal place which has to be visited to be fully appreciated... Big thanks to Brother Jorge Quintero and his 300 violin orchestra for providing the soundtrack.
To my great fortune I didn't pick up the phone when Mike and Julie called with a jovial birthday song. What you have here is the very message they left. Mike was in Seattle, and patched in Julie so they could sing the duet. Amazing you guys. Amazing.
This is many moons past due . . . I recently crafted this quick video that takes a sneak peek at the cast of our Obregon Mexico '08 trip. Crazy as it may sound, we're currently getting ready for our '09 excursion. We're starting to create our volunteer roster, so let me know if you're feeling up to a long bus ride to Mexico this Thanksgiving. Why eat Turkey when you could enjoy fresh tortillas, frijoles, and a nice cold horchata?
A few blessed friends and I took a trip to Central America early this year. This quick video takes a peek at what went down on the island of Ometepe, Nicaragua.
The island of Ometepe was made from two large volcanoes, one of which is still active. It sits in the middle of a HUGE freshwater lake and is surprisingly home to the freshwater Bull Shark.
After landing on the island, we took a 2-hour ride to a hostel that I read about in Lonely Planet, fingers crossed that the $5 per night lodging would be somewhat hospitable and that there would be space for 6 “cheles” such as ourselves. Our wildest dreams came true as we all fell in love with the people, the climate, the cows (but not the 4am rooster), the food, the lake, the volcano, the sunsets, the bunkbeds, goat (the person not the animal), the bikes, the kayaks, the wildlife, the sunsets. . .
